Nanocomposites of Terbium Sulfide Nanoparticles with a Chitosan Capping Agent for Antibacterial Applications

This study aims to investigate the effect of alkaline pH on bottom-up synthesis nanocomposites (NCs) containing terbium sulfide nanoparticles (Tb2S3 NPs), where chitosan (CS) was employed as a capping agent, along with evaluation antibacterial activity these NCs. The NCs were characterized using spectroscopy (FESEM-EDX, Raman, FTIR, XRD, XPS, and DLS), zeta-potential, TGA. results FE-SEM, FTIR characterization support formation CS-Tb2S3 NPs. A variation from 9 11 during composite shown affect size composition studied by coating onto commercial contact lenses, best loading efficiency 48%. prepared at 10 (without lenses) had greater against Staphylococcus aureus, zone inhibition diameter 7.15 mm. lenses less effective for in contrast observed tetracycline. offer promising antimicrobial properties that can be further optimized control surface accessibility Tb2S3 NPs through role since steric effects due CS are likely attenuate via reduced electron transfer such nanocomposite systems.
